FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: process is carried out with silver-containing catalyst on alkali metal carbonate carrier containing potassium salt, e.g. potassium nitrate and molybdenum promoter at 180-350 C. Potassium salt and molybdenum promoter can be provided simultaneously thanks to use of potassium salt of molybdenum oxy anion. More particularly, catalyst contains 25-60% silver, 0.5-3% (on conversion to potassium cation) salt selected from potassium nitrate or nitrite, and 0.05-2.5% (on conversion to Mo) molybdenum promoter or 0.5-3% (on conversion to K cation) potassium cation.
