The invention relates to a method for isolating viral nucleic acids from liquids such as plasma or other liquids containing viral particles. According to the inventive method, the nucleic acids are obtained in purified form. The invention especially relates to the detection of viruses present in liquids, especially in plasma pools. The invention particularly refers to a method for preparing samples for nucleic acid amplification techniques (NAT) and to a kit for carrying out said method.
