The invention relates to a laser inscription system for materials, comprising a laser module (2) and a control module (3), containing, in particular, a microcomputer for said laser module (2). These modules can be interconnected to form at least one compact, transportable inscription unit (1), whereby an element (7) is provided for setting up the inscription unit (1) in a predetermined operating position. This allows a particularly precise orientation of a laser beam (6), even in a transportable laser inscription system. A laser inscription system of this type can also be used with a device for treating a workpiece.
