Manufacture of bicycles with customisation featured according to order placed at one of several regional centres in the vicinity of the central fabrication plant involves initial 'assembly' by the customer of a 'virtual' cycle according to the customer's specification via a graphics program at the centre. The cycle thus specified is then ordered by the customer or by an assistant on the main computer at the centre and the order is automatically received at the plant administration computer and the cycle is then compiled from the various discrete module components, the various parts being booked out by scanner at the plant accounts department and compared with the order. The parts are then packed onto a special assembly vehicle which is received by the production workers.
