The vehicle safety belt system has a sensor (2) to register the pull forces on the belt. The sensor is linked to an evaluation unit. The sensor or the evaluation unit is structured so that, on registering a given pull force threshold value, a cut-off signal is generated to components of the vehicle where there are critical safety considerations such as the fuel supply to the motor, the vehicle electrical system, the gearbox or the ignition system. The force sensor can have an expansion strip, a piezo element, an inductive or capacitative sensor unit, a fuse wire, or a switch coupled to an elastic component.
