A windshield wiper device for vehicles, especially for cars, has a wiper drive (7) that drives at least one wiper (3) via a rod (9) and spring devices (13) that are drive-coupled to the wiper drive. The spring devices are tensioned by the drive in first wiper phases and released to the second wiper phases supporting the wiper drive. The wiper drive is designed as an electric motor which is driven at a wiper frequency with two different voltages of the same polarity. The higher voltage is assigned to the first wiper phases and the lower voltage to the second wiper phases.
