The catalyzer body (10) has a carrier which is coated with a catalytically active material, providing a number of flow channels through which the engine exhaust gases are passed. The different flow channels have differing flow resistances, the carrier provided by a metal material, e.g. metal segments (12), in the low flow resistance area and by a ceramic material, e.g. ceramic segments (14), in the high flow resistance area.
