The device has a cooling unit (10) for the oil, and a filter unit (12). The two units form an integral part and are fitted together into a single device housing (14). The cooling unit is a plate cooler, and the cylindrical filter unit is located into front of or behind it in oil flow direction. A filter element is contained in a filter housing, and this also contains two by-pass valves. The element consists of materials, which can be completely incinerated.
