The housing (1) for a sealing ring (6) on a centrifugal pump for hot liquids is connected via a gap (8) surrounding a shaft (7) with a chamber containing liquid under higher pressure. A chamber (3) in the housing contains a propelling component (10) for the liquid which rotates with the shaft, e.g. a screw (2), and bathes the surface of the ring with liquid. A turbulence reducing channel (12) is positioned near the inner end (13) of the seal which communicates with a gas collection chamber (14).
