The sensor has a pair of triangular plate transmission electrodes (2), a reception electrode (3), a signal source (4a, 4b) and a sensing device (5). The electrically conducting strip (1) is inserted between the transmission and reception electrodes. The signal source supplies signals with different frequencies to the transmission electrodes. The sensing device evaluates the degree of insertion of the strip material from the currents of both frequencies at the reception electrode.
