The clamping device has a main part, and an arm connected to it pivoted, so that it can move between open and closed positions. An actuator member is connected to the arm via a first drive mechanism to control its movements, and a second drive mechanism to apply a clamping force via a cam arrangement to the arm, when it is in closed position. Both mechanism are arranged so that they are operated sequentially when the actuator member is operated. The first mechanism has a dead travel unit to permit limited movement of the actuator member, when it is in closed position.
