The system uses the central column both as support and air distribution route. The refrigerated display cabinet includes an evaporator in the base with fans for circulation of the cooled air derived from the evaporator. The cabinet is circular with a central column (6). The central column serves for distribution of the cooled air, the air being blown up the column by the fans. The column supports a number of horizontal shelves, and apertures in the column allow cold air to flow out over these shelves. A proportion of the air blown up the column reaches the top, where it is guided to fall downwards in a cold curtain which then surrounds the display shelves. As the air returns to the base of the unit, it is sent once again through the evaporator for cooling prior to circulation again.
