Brazed aluminium heat exchanger, esp for motor vehicle, has finned tubes made with end collars for brazing round holes in manifold

The heat exchanger consists of at least one manifold (16) with a series of spaced holes (20) in one wall (18) to receive flat tubes (12) with corrugated fins (14). The ends (40) of the tubes have peripheral collars (42) which are fitted against the manifold wall and brazed round the holes. The manifold is made from a single sheet of metal which is stamped and folded or rolled, and prior to assembly the collars are curved in shape so that they fit closely against the manifold wall before brazing.
