The pivot for a motor vehicle seat frame has a movable plate (8) with inner teeth (13) and a fixed plate (7) with two sets of externally toothed plates (11,25). One plate (11) slides normally without circumferential play on the fixed plate. The second plate (25) slides with play between two guides (14) which diverge towards the teeth to form gaps with them to receive wedges.
