Method and apparatus for reproducing data from a recording medium accounting for differences in track sizes

A reproducing apparatus and method are provided in accordance with the invention. The apparatus includes a reader for reading out data from a recording medium, a controller for controlling the position of the reader, and a determiner for determining a number of tracks the controller is to move the reader. The apparatus also includes a comparator, which compares whether the determined number of tracks is less than a predetermined number of tracks in which each of the tracks has an essentially equal number of sectors therein.
