PURPOSE: To obviate giving damage to unhulled rice grains while greatly increasing the treating capacity of the rachis-branch-cutting-off action of grains with the rachis- branches. ;CONSTITUTION: The outer peripheral surface of a vertical type cylindrical body 1 formed with rachis-branch-cutting-off holes 2 to the extent of allowing the unhulled rice grains to pass is internally provided with a lifting type rotating cylinder 3 wound with spirals 4. The spacing between the outer peripheral edges of the spirals 4 and the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical body 1 is set at a spacing M in which the unhulled rice grains are flowable down. In addition, the cylindrical body 1 is enclosed by an outside cylinder 9 to form a fall-down path (a) on the outer periphery, by which the rachis-branchcutting-off action is applied on the unhulled rice grains contg. the grains with the rachis-branches while the grains flow from above to below within the cylindrical body 1 and the unhulled rice grains are discharged from the rachis-branch-cutting-off holes 2. The outer peripheral part of the spirals is provided with a rubbing plate of which the plate plane is intersected diagonally with the rotating direction when viewed from laterally. A good result is obtd. if the outer edge of the rubbing prate is brought near to the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical body.
