PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collapsible type camera by which a lens barrel is protected by automatically storing the lens barrel at a collapsing position when the photographing operation of a camera is not executed for a specified time. ;SOLUTION: In this collapsible type camera, the lens barrel is extended from the collapsing position to a photographing preparation position in accordance with the turn-on operation of the power source switch of the camera, and is extended or withdrawn from a wide end to a telephoto end in accordance with the operation of a zoom switch and is withdrawn to the collapsing position in accordance with the turn-off operation of the power source switch. The lapse of time after the lens barrel is extended to the photographing preparation position is measured, and it is discriminated whether or not the operation of a camera operation member such as a shutter release button is executed within a specified time, and a timer is reset when the operation of the camera operation member is executed, and control to drive the lens barrel to collapsing position is executed when the operation of the camera operation member is not executed for the specified time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
