PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large-span rock fall protecting method which can relatively easily implement rock fall protection which is advantageous in strength, function and execution of work, on a large-span wide slope surface, and to provide a support apparatus. ;SOLUTION: A plurality of vertical and horizontal reinforcing ropes 3, 4, upper stage horizontal ropes 6a, 6b, and a plurality of vertical and horizontal ropes 5, 7 are incorporated in a wire netting having an area corresponding to the total span, as a curtain net 2, to reinforce the same, and further the upper stage horizontal ropes 6a, 6b are varied in length according to the span. On the other hand, the horizontal ropes 7 and the horizontal reinforcing ropes 4 are not cut for each span but the ropes sequentially extending over the entire span are employed, and edge supports 1a, 1b are built at both edges of the entire span in a manner being capable of tilting in a slope direction. Further, a pair of intermediate supports 1c, 1d are built in respective intermediate areas 1c, 1d, in a manner being capable of tilting in the slope direction. Then, upper portions of the pair of intermediate supports 1c, 1d are connected together by a connecting member 16, and portions of the respective intermediate supports, below the upper portions, are also connected together by another connecting member 16.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
