PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the work of mounting/demounting a moving handrail at the time of maintenance and inspection several times by providing a locking member which is capable of engaged with or disengaged from a moving member allowing a moving handrail to move along a guide rail, and which separates the moving handrail from the guide rail. ;SOLUTION: A moving member 12 is provided with a support base 18 and a roller support 20 supporting a roller 19 rolling on a rear surface of a moving handrail so that it may roll freely. After removing the handrail from the guide rail, a plurality of maintenance and inspection jigs are set on the guide rail at a distance. A locking member 11 holds therebetween the guide rail by the elastic force of a spring. At this time, a rear surface of the moving handrail is in contact with a roller 19 while the moving handrail floats up from the guide rail at an intermediate part of the guide rail, and under the condition the maintenance and inspection work of the rear surface of the moving handrail can be carried out. In carrying out the maintenance and inspection work of the moving handrail inside a truss thereafter, a moving handrail driver is driven to move the handrail under the condition where the jigs are set on the guide rail.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
