PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To moderate an impact in bringing an indenter into contact with a sample and to easily and accurately apply a first testing force to the sample, in an indentation forming mechanism having a rigid load arm and a hardness testing machine.;SOLUTION: This indentation forming mechanism 10 is used for a testing machine for measuring a material characteristic of the sample based on the forming of the indentation with the indenter 3, and has an impact moderating means (a load arm operation control part 65 and a servo motor 61) for moving one of the indenter and the sample in the same direction of the other. The mechanism reduces the impulse in the contact to moderate the impact occurring between the sample and the indenter.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
