PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for accurately performing a hardness test at a stipulated load speed. ;SOLUTION: A servo motor 61 enables push-in force for forming indentation on the surface of a sample S to operate on a penetrator 3. A leaf spring 7 transfers force that is given by the servo motor 61 to the penetrator 3. A sensor 64 of the amount of spring displacement detects the amount of elastic displacement of the leaf spring 7, namely the push-in force of the penetrator. A differentiator 65 calculates the increase rate of push-in force, operating on the penertator 3, namely the load speed based on the change in the detection result of the sensor 64 of the amount of spring displacement. A load arm actuation control section 67 performs the feedback control of a servo motor 61 so that a load speed follows a target load speed based on the comparison between the load speed that is calculated by the differentiator 65 and the preset target load speed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
