PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indentation forming mechanism capable of preventing a sample other than a measuring object from being tested, and a hardness testing machine.;SOLUTION: The indentation forming mechanism is equipped with a servomotor 61 for applying force for allowing the push-in force, which forms an indentation in the surface of an object to be tested, to act on a penetrator 3, a spring displacement quantity sensor 64 for detecting the push-in force applied to the penetrator, an arm position sensor 8 for detecting the penetration quantity of the penetrator and a judge part 653 for stopping the application of force due to a force applying means when the penetration quantity detected by the arm position sensor to the push-in force measured by the spring displacement quantity sensor is judged to be not present in a preset range.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
