PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of update errors from temporary patient discrimination information to normal patient update information and to solve non conformities involved in the update error, when plural patient identification numbers are assigned to one patient duplicately, in a patient information management method and a hospital information system. SOLUTION: In the patient information management method, which provides patient information in response to requests from department systems 2, 3, and 4, it is recognized whether another patient identification number (normal ID) is assigned duplicatedly to a patient having a patient discrimination number (temporary ID) inputted together with a request for patient information from department systems, when the request is made; and if the normal ID is verified as being assigned duplicately to the patient having the temporary ID, the normal ID is transmitted to department systems together with patient information related to the temporary ID.
