The invention relates to a spacer tube (3) being closed by a longitudinal weld for placing therein a drying agent and/or for ensuring a distance of two glass panes of an insulating glazing having an inner wall (5) turned toward inner space extending between the glass panes, further two side walls (6) turned toward the glass panes and an outer wall (7) opposite to the inner wall. A color stripe (2) is imprinted on surface of the inner wall (5) being turned toward the inner space and said side walls (6, 6) are without color as well as the outer wall (7). The color stripe (2) and the inner wall (5) are provided with gas exchange apertures (8). The longitudinal weld seam (11) is disposed in one of the walls (6, 7). Further the invention relates to a method for the production of a spacer tube, several color strips being imprinted in side-by-side arrangement on the surface of a metal strip, preferably simultaneously, using a rotary printing mechanism, the paint is dried, and the metal strip is divided longitudinally between the color stripes, is cut to length, provided with gas exchange apertures and shaped, whereby the area carrying the color stripe forms in the insulating glazing a visible inner wall of the invented distance tube. Apparatus for making the above-described process has a printing mechanism (17), a dryer (27) arranged after the printing mechanism (17) and followed by a splitting unit (29) that is in turn followed up with a profiling or shaping mechanism (30), whereby the printing mechanism (17) has an impression cylinder (14) having several printing disks (24) of metal, e.g. steel, arranged side by side.
