An improved process is provided for thehydrogenation of nitrile rubber wherein the molecularweight increase during the hydrogenation process isminimized and controlled, the improvement being that thehydrogenation is undertaken in the presence in thesolution of an NH2-containing compound selected fromammonia and a C1 to C20 primary amine.
