Improved methods have been developed for detecting the desired glucose and other components in a subject in a non-invasive way. The device light method of the present invention preferably provides analog color sensing to the human eye near infrared light, which replaces the spectrophotometer and narrow band source used in other non-invasive detection methods near conventional infrared light. Multiple detector units are used, each detector unit covering a wide range in parallel with color sensing and colorimetric methods and overramping the areas of the detected spectrum. This improvement is primarily concerned with improving the signal to background (noise) ratio such that the data stream is improved. This improvement uses joint sampling and compares different data streams from different object parts or filter sets, uses a query system at a sufficiently high speed for testing arterial blood, and uses filters with spectral structure. In some circumstances, neural networks can be used for analysis to allow the system to be trained. Also a new method for background identification is described.
