Radial pneumatic tires for light trucks or automobiles having a tread 42 are disclosed. The tread 42 has a base 43, a plurality of sticking elements 52 extending radially outwardly from the base 43 and at least one circumferentially continuous wide groove 54, 55. The wide grooves 54, 55 have windows 72 continuous in the circumferential direction from the tread base 43 to the radially outer ground contact surface 53. The window 72 has a triangular or trapezoidal shape with two side faces 73, 74 and a radially outer elongated base 75 when viewed from the ground contact portion of the tread 42. The long base 75 has an axial width of 7% to 20% of the tread width. The wide grooves 54, 55 have a zigzag portion 70 extending radially from the tread base 43 in a circumferentially continuous path. The wide grooves 54, 55 form the maximum axial extent or butterfly of the zigzag portion 70 on the sides 73, 74 of the window 72. This tread 42 is preferably asymmetrical and non-directional, and has two wide grooves 54, 55 that divide a number of sticking elements into three tread regions 60, 61, 62, each of which is a tread region. Has a different grounding rate.
