The mounting for a component subject to vibration, and especially a motor exhaust system, has a damper (12) which has an increased stiffness along the longitudinal line (x-direction) of the vehicle than across it (y-direction) or vertically (z-direction). The stiffness is raised as the loading is increased. The damper is secured to the vehicle bodywork by an angled holder (10) with bending stiffness. The damper is of an elastic material e.g. rubber.
