The device for holding and machining workpieces has a triangular body (1), in the corners of which securing pins (2,3,4) are fitted in through holes. Each securing pin is movable in its hole by a screw pressure spring (8,12,13) and securable by means of a clamp screw (9,10,11). One securing pin (2) is larger in diameter than the other two, and in an outer casing (5) has clamping tongs (6) for receipt of a workpiece, such as a screw, for grinding or polishing its head. For machining the workpiece, the body with the clamping tongs directed downwards is manually movable backwards and forwards over a sand surface. To ensure that the workpiece is accurately ground, the body must be precisely parallel to the sand surface, which is achieved using the other two securing pins (3,4) which have only a support function.
