The appliance is used as excavator and for piece good handling, and has a working arm (12), which can be adapted for the required function. At least part of the arm consists of esp. a three-part telescopic section (15,16), and this is located in the main arm part (14). The telescopic section is locked automatically in at least one end position. The working arm and any accessories are controlled by hydraulic and/or pneumatic cylinders (18,19). The free end of the working arm carries replaceable working tool.
