The bobbin creel has a mechanical brake system to give the required yarn tension as they are drawn from their bobbins, The mechanical brakes are belt brakes (6), with a common brake belt (7) which passes partially around the cylinders (5) at each bobbin (4) in the vertical stack. A spring (8) applies a draw tension to the brake belt, to act on the bobbin cylinders in the row. The bobbin creel has deflection rollers (12,13) for the common brake belt, flanking each bobbin cylinder, to ensure that the brake belt lies on the same side of each bobbin cylinder. Two deflection rollers are between each bobbin cylinder. A setting unit acts on the deflection rollers to adjust the gap between them and the bobbin cylinders. A number of neighboring brake belts are held firmly at one end by a clamping rail (9) which is moved by a reciprocating stroke movement mechanism (10,11).
