Process for recycling hexagonal boron nitride ceramic components comprises cleaning the surface of the components using a known process; and converting into a boron nitride-containing powder by breaking and grinding. Preferred Features: The wear surface of the components in contact with a metal melt is mechanically ground. The purified components are coarsely pre-crushed and then ground to a powder with a conventional grinding machine. Grinding is carried out in a protective gas.
