The vehicle has a combined display unit in the vision area of the driver whilst at least some of this information can be displayed additionally in a second display unit (2) installed in the vehicle. The additional display need only be visible when there is a fault in the combination display unit (1). The display field of the second display unit can be used entirely or in part to show the substitute data.
