Electronic transformer with good immunity to high voltage pulses

Electronic transformers with self-excited half-bridges can be destroyed by high-voltage pulses from the mains supply. This can be done in that the high-voltage pulse triggers a starting process that leads to cross currents. This destruction mechanism is prevented by deliberately discharging a starting capacitor.
