Tool holder (1) comprises a shaft (2) having at its front end section (6) a tool receiver (5) and at the opposite end section (8) a connection (7) for fixing the tool holder to a machine. The shaft has at least two regions (hollow body (3), connecting rod (4)) between the end sections. A first region (connecting rod) is loaded with a pre-tensioning force and a second region (hollow body) is designed as an abutment for the pre-tensioning force exerted by the first region. Preferred Features: The first region transfers a pre-tensioning force cause by internal stress of the material to the second region. The shaft has adjustable pre-tensioning force.
