The main gear group (25) has three wheel sets for six forward gears (1 to 6) and a turning wheel set (W) for reverse gear. The idle wheels (17 to 22) of all the wheel sets as well as the associated shift clutches are mounted on the lay shaft (10). A seventh gear (7) is shifted as direct gear through a shift clutch which in the shifted state connects the drive shaft (8) direct to the output shaft (9). A jump between the sixth and seventh gear is less than the jumps between the remaining forward gears.
