The blind rivet has a pointed end (9) and a collar (4). The shaft (5) of the rivet is hollow and a rod (2) fits into this, allowing the rivet to be driven in. A line of weakness ( 1) across the rod allows it to be broken off once the rivet is in position. Independent claims are included for: (a) a retainer for a tool for fixing the rivet in place; (b) a method for making the rivet ; and (c) a method for fixing the rivet in place.
