TESTS OF 17ST HARD DRIVEN RIVETS AND 24ST RIVETS DRIVEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER QUENCHING

Tests were conducted on single and multiple rivet single tow lap joint shear specimens, and on singles rivet tension specimens, using AN426 100°countersunk head and AN456 brassier head rivets of 17S material driven in the T, or hard, condition. For comparison AN426 24ST rivets driven quenched were also tested. As a result of these tests, it was decided that the allowable shear strengths for both 178T and 24ST rivets might be increased.
