The method involves regulating braking force with normal gain using a shifted characteristic if a driver deceleration increase demand is detected. If a deceleration reduction demand is detected the force is reduced using a higher gain characteristic. If a further deceleration increase demand is detected the force is regulated using a transition characteristic starting from the higher gain characteristic to the normal characteristic maximum force. The method involves regulating the braking force with a normal gain according to a shifted characteristic if a greater driver deceleration demand is detected. If a driver deceleration reduction demand is detected the braking force is reduced according to a characteristic with a higher gain. If a further increase in deceleration demand is detected the braking force is regulated according to transition characteristic starting from the higher gain characteristic to the point of maximum force on the normal characteristic. Independent claims are also included for the following: a brake-by-wire braking system.
