A composition for treating cardiac insufficiency comprising a construct (A) that can transfect the heart with transcription factors (TF) of the basic helix-loop-helix type. An Independent claim is also included for an expression vector consisting of: (a) sequences for one or both of the TF eHAND and dHAND cloned into a viral genome; and (b) a specific or non-specific promoter.
