Gripping surfaces for tyres, caterpillar tracks and tyre coverings comprising on the contact plane varied scooped shapes defining hollow spaces creating a geometry which is either positive or negative with respect to their topology The negative indentations follow a curved, parabolic or angular notch in order to compress within their hollows under the weight of the vehicle matter of low coefficient of friction or cohesion to give a local increase in such friction and cohesion. Similarly shaped scoops applied in relief displace loose material and create a more stable surface. A combination of both negative and relief scoops may be combined on the contact surface symmetrically, asymmetrically or dissymetrically with traditional grooves. Within the geometric limits of the scoops, the depths or heights delimited by notches or contours which give rise to compression or displacement, rise or descend obliquely in a synclinal, anticlinal or flat matter with respect to the contact plane up to the point where the next scoop begins. The technique is applied to coverings for tyres and caterpillar tracks which are of the same materials and designed to fit over them. It is also applied to the soles of walking shoes to give an anti-slip effect, to trainers to improved performance by the effect of air compression and displacement.
