The connection between a motor vehicle steering wheel (200) and steering column (100) has non-contact electrical connections between the column and hub for air bag control circuitry. The connections allow power transfer to the air bag irrespective of the angle of rotation of the steering wheel. The non-contact connections can include an emitter coil (130) and a receiver coil or Hall effect sensor.
