The optical modulator has a wave guide structure forming an interferometer. Electrodes are connected to one of the interferometer arms varying the phase separation between the luminous waves in the two arms (4). An electrode assembly is placed on the interferometer arms in an inverted (15) electro optical material region and a non inverted region. There is a delay line between the command electronics and the command electrode assembly producing a delay equal to the wave propagation time between the two assemblies.
