Suspension system (1), connecting wheel carrier (3) with wheel of radius r to a vehicle body (5), and incorporating swinging arm (4) which gives wheel independent degrees of camber freedom and suspension clearance freedom relative to body, is designed so that camber movement of wheel carrier relative to vehicle body allows instantaneous center of rotation (CIR r/c) about a mean position of between 2.5r above ground level and 1r below it. The system is close to balance in the mean position in the absence of any transverse force applied by the ground on the wheel's area of contact (AC).
