Method in which liquid in the form of drops (A) or runs is detected on the outside of a vertical or inclined pipe (1) at least two different levels (13, 14, 15) in order that the existence of a leak can be inferred. An Independent claim is made for an installation for circulation of liquids having leak detectors (2) on the outside of pipes with associated collectors (3) for detecting liquid leaks.
