A floating body (1) carries a detector (2) and a float (3) where the floating body and the float have different dimensions and/or densities and/or capacities for absorbing the floating liquid. This allows the detection of a minimal variation where the threshold of height different between the float and the floating body allows the presence of a floating liquid to be deduced. The float is spherical with a partially or totally metallic surface and the detector is an inductive proximity detector. Alternatively, the float contains a mesh cylinder containing a product which can absorb the floating liquid but is inactive with respect to the base liquid. The threshold of detection is reached by adjusting the amount of absorbent carried by the float and/or by varying the position of the detector. An organ (4) displaces the float to simulate the presence of a floating liquid, particularly at the end of a test or trial. This organ is an air nozzle or pneumatic micro-jack.
