A modified polymer emulsion with increased viscosity is sprayed via a bottle with a hand pump trigger onto a fabric or textile surface such as a mat, rug or car mat without penetrating the fabric and prevents lateral movement or creep between the sprayed surface and the surface on which the mat or rug is layed. Preferably the polymer is an adhesive and acts as an anti-slip agent when treated rugs and mats are placed on a hard floor. The rug or mat may be lifted vertically whilst the adhesive remains on the mat or rug surface without any transfer of residue onto the floor surface.
