PURPOSE: To provide an optical compensation sheet which has excellent heat resistance and improves visual field characteristics of an LCD by disposing a layer contg. a disk-shaped compd. and having optical anisotropy on a transparent sheet having optically negative uniaxiality. ;CONSTITUTION: This optical compensation sheet is constituted by laminating a layer contg. the disk-shaped compd. and having the optical anisotropy on the transparent sheet which has the optically negative uniaxiality and has the optical axis in the normal direction of the film. The disk-shaped compd. is expressed by formula Rn-xD-(L-P)k. In the formula, D denotes a n-functional group radially arranged with n-pieces of substituents R and substituent layers (P-L); P denotes an isocyanate group, thiocyanate group, amino group, etc.; L denotes a group connecting P and D. This compd. has a structure formed by arranging cyclic mother nuclei, such as benzene and triazine, at the center of the molecule and radially arranging the straight chain alkyl groups and alkoxy groups, etc., as the side chains thereof and is more preferably a polymerized compd. of a discotic liquid crystal compd. having liquid crystallinity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
