PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a halftone screening method which suppresses deterioration in image quality due to a visual pattern caused by a regular cell arrangement. PSOLUTION: A dot arrangement example 1 before moving dots and a dot arrangement example 2 after moving dots are shown. It is an example for moving dots in a range limited, avoiding blending of adjacent cells and showing an example for a procedure for determining dot moving places. To suppress the occurrence of a visual pattern due to regularly arranged dots, many methods for adding noise to the dot arrangement are proposed. This invention assumes a square range with the length of one side of a halftone cell defined as about one half of it as shown in Fig. 1, expecting of randomly moving a dot to be the center of the square cell. As a result, since a dot moving range is limited, a dot is prevented from adjoining to a dot of an adjacent cell to be blended with the dot of the adjacent cell. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
