SALT RESISTANT EUCALYPT AND METHOD FOR PREPARING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain salt resistant eucalypt strong against environmental stress by imparting betaine-producing ability to the eucalypt.;SOLUTION: Choline oxidase gene which catalyzes one step oxidation from choline to betaine is introduced in chromosome DNA of eucalypt. A shoot having at least one end with a growing point and a base without the growing point is used as a tissue for introducing the gene and the gene is introduced into the base of the shoot to initiate adventitious buds. Thus, an individual in which the choline oxidase gene is introduced into the chromosome DNA is prepared independent of species even in the genus Eucalyptus having many species to which the gene is difficultly introduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
